If there’s ever any people who should be there for you as a kid it’s your parents, but we all eventually realise that our adult supervisors barely have a clue the same as us. People make mistakes, that’s granted, but there are still certain mistakes that should never be made. Iris Gibney is a 42-year-old mother of a high school cheerleader who has recently garnered a lot of media attention, but the Victoria’s Secret worker isn’t too happy about it. Back on November 15th Iris was caught having sex with a 17-year-old soccer player, which she openly plead guilty to in court.
According to reports Iris had met the young lad during a football game back in October and decided to connect with him on Twitter. Eventually their “relationship” grew to her sending him nude photos of herself to his cell phone… that his parents more than likely pay for… Since pleading guilty she has been to therapy and shows signs of actual remorse, but that shouldn’t change as much of the outcome as it did. She was sentenced to 100 hours of community service, five years probation and must actively participate in therapy for sex, drugs and alcohol (though likely only for the first part).
If that situation had been reversed and it was a 17-year-old girl with a 42-year-old man there’s not a doubt in my mind the punishment would have been much more severe. Everyone committing the same types of crimes should receive the same types of punishment, regardless of sex, race or religion and these stories only continue to decrease the faith the public has in our judicial system.
